viridian architecture & design
®  takes its name from the Latin word viridis, meaning "green."

In 2004, architect and artist Shea Bajaj officially launched viridian architecture & design ®  with the goal of offering high quality and spirited design solutions for new construction and residential remodels. viridian architecture & design ® offers a full range of architectural services including LEED® and Built Green™ certification.

Between 1998 and 2004 prior to launching viridian design ®, Shea worked as a project architect and project manager for the award winning architectural firm of Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen in Seattle, Washington (www.oskaarchitects.com). Selected projects are featured on this website.

We have worked on the designs of numerous innovative residential and commercial designs throughout the world, including Hong Kong, Vancouver B.C., Micronesia, Hawaii and across the United States.

In addition to architectural design commissions, viridian design ®  is involved with the creation of award-winning fine art (www.sheabajaj.com) and unique industrial design products.

BLUFF HOUSE

The BLUFF HOUSE includes the following green features:

1) High density small footprint design with a single family house of 1800 square feet, three bedrooms, two baths.  An attached accessory dwelling unit of 600 square feet that has two bedrooms and one bath. The end result is a modern open-plan house which has five bedrooms and three baths in only 2400 square feet.

2) The butterfly roof funnels rainwater to a central location where rainwater is stored in 3300 gallons of above ground and below ground cisterns.

3) The BLUFF HOUSE is super insulated and incorporates structural insulated panels (S.I.P.'s) in its roof and wall design.

4) The house incorporates a BRAC 250 grey-water system to help reduce water consumption.

5) Impermeable surfaces were limited to the house footprint. The rest of the site paving was achieved with permeable paving, gravel and natural vegetation.

6) Pre-wired and plumbed for future solar electric and thermal panels.
